Winter Kite Season Essaouira — Morocco's Wind City

Winter Kite Season Essaouira — Morocco's Wind City

300+ windy days · IKO certified · BBTalkin radio coaching · From €55

TL;DR

From October to April, Essaouira delivers the most reliable kitesurf conditions in North Africa. NNE trade winds blow 15–35 knots across shallow sandy bays — perfect for beginners learning body drag and water starts, and for advanced riders chasing downwind trips to Sidi Kaouki. Our IKO-certified school uses BBTalkin radio helmets for real-time coaching on the water.

Winter Wind Calendar — Month by Month

Essaouira averages 300 windy days per year. Winter (Oct–Apr) brings the strongest, most consistent alizés — typically 20–30 knots from 2pm to sunset. Mornings are calmer (great for surf or wingfoil). Water temperature: 16–18°C in winter (4/3mm wetsuit recommended).

  • October–November: 18–28 knots, warm water, fewer crowds
  • December–February: 20–35 knots, peak wind season, wetsuit 4/3mm
  • March–April: 18–30 knots, ideal combo wind + surf swell
