Every June, Essaouira hosts the Gnaoua World Music Festival — 500,000 visitors, free concerts in the medina and on the beach. Smart travellers surf at sunrise, kite in the afternoon trade wind, then walk to evening shows. The festival typically runs the last week of June (confirm dates at gnaoua.org). Main stages sit inside the UNESCO medina walls and on the beachfront — world-class Gnaoua masters alongside jazz, blues and fusion artists. Entry to most concerts is free.
Accommodation sells out 3–6 months ahead. Our partner riads are 2–5 minutes from the beach and walking distance to concert squares — avoid long taxi queues after midnight shows.

Yes — morning sessions (before 11am) are best. Bay is calmer before the wind picks up. We recommend booking lessons at 8:30am.
5–10 minutes walk from our school base to medina concert squares. Beach stage is directly on the sand in front of the school.
