Rent a Surfboard in Essaouira or Take a Lesson | Prices

TL;DR

Soft-top rental in Essaouira is €10 an hour or €20 a day. Epoxy is €20 an hour or €35 a day. A group lesson is €30 with the board included. When rental is the wrong spend.

Surfboard rental in Essaouira: when the lesson is the cheaper board

Hiring a soft-top in Essaouira is €10 an hour, €20 a day or €100 a week. Epoxy is €20 an hour, €35 a day or €175 a week. The wetsuit is included with the surfboard hire. A group lesson is €30 for two hours and the board is already in that price. If you cannot yet stand up, the lesson is the board you should pay for. Hire starts when you can paddle and choose a wave without someone pushing.

Which board, and for how long?

Soft-tops are what we put under people who have had a few lessons and still spend most of the wave in the foam. They are wide, they forgive a rail dug in on take-off, and they are the right hire for the bay. Epoxy is for someone who paddles onto a green face and finds a soft-top too slow. Volume is chosen on the beach from your weight, not from a checkout menu.

One hour is a single morning before the wind. A day is two sessions. A week of soft-top (€100) is cheaper than five separate days (5 × €20). Do that maths before you pay daily "to stay flexible". Four days already matches the week rate.

Kite and wing are not the same counter. A full kite set is €40 for two hours. A full wing set is €60 for two hours. Both require you to launch, ride and land alone, after a safety briefing. They are not beginner rentals. Beginners book the course. SUP, if the bay is glassy and you only want to paddle, is €10 an hour or €25 a day for a board and paddle.

What you must do before we hand over a board

First hire includes a short briefing: where the school zone ends, what the wind does after late morning, and how to walk back in rather than drift toward the rocks at the edges of the bay. We do not skip it because you hired in Portugal last year. The bay looks mild and still has a sweep once the trade wind is up.

Bring swimwear and a towel. Leave the phone out of the wetsuit pocket. If you brought your own board on the plane, you do not have to hire. Storage for a board only is €3 a day or €15 a week, so you are not carrying it through the medina at night. The medina is a ten- to fifteen-minute walk. A full kite kit in storage is €5 a day or €25 a week. A wetsuit locker is €2 or €10.

Cash in euros or dirhams, card, PayPal or bank transfer. The rate is the rate on the card at the school, not a street price that changes with the swell.

When a lesson costs less than hire

Two hours of group coaching is €30. Two hours of soft-top hire is €20, and you get no one in the water with you. The €10 gap is the wrong place to save money on day one. Three mornings as a six-hour pack are €87 in a group, €140 private. After that pack, hire makes sense: you know the bay, you know roughly the volume, and you are not paying a coach to watch you repeat something you can already do.

Private lessons at €50 are for a specific problem or for a child, not a substitute for hire. If you already surf and you want a spot called for you, that is guiding, not a pop-up lesson and not a rental. The surf lesson page is the booking path for hours with a coach. The German rental breakdown, including kite and wing, is Surfboard mieten. A week with a bed, if you do not want to assemble hire plus a riad yourself, starts at €278 for four days on the surf camp page, and the lesson board is included so you should not also hire.

A realistic first rental morning

You collect the board at the base, 29 Avenue Moulay Youssef, not from a van on the promenade. We look at the wind and the tide before you walk in. If the trade wind is already chopping the bay, we will tell you to come back the next morning rather than take €20 for an hour you will not enjoy. That conversation is the briefing. It is short. It is not optional.

People who rent for a week usually surf once in the morning and leave the board with us rather than carry a wet soft-top through the medina. Your own board in overnight storage is €3 a day or €15 a week. A hired board comes back to the same base at the end of the hired hour or day. Say which you are doing so a lesson board is not handed out twice.

Ask before you walk down with cash for the wrong board

Tell us your weight, how many times you have surfed, and whether you want one morning or the week. We answer with hire or with a lesson, not with both by default.
